Interior Renovations Begin to Take Shape

There has been incredible progress made recently on the Lifting the Sky capital project, and we’re excited to share details with you!

To date, here’s what has been accomplished:

  • New HVAC systems with automated control are now in place, replacing one very old system! See amazing photos of the new HVAC systems being lifted up to the roof and put into place.
  • New roofs have been installed over the Chapel and the Social Hall.
  • Old light fixtures have been donated for re-use rather than going to a landfill.
  • A generator support system has been built, enabling the future addition of a generator).
  • The electrical system has been upgraded.
  • New bollards and sidewalks have been installed.
  • A full cleaning and tuckpointing of the courtyard, chapel and sanctuary has been completed.

As we undergo major renovations inside the building, wonderful new spaces on the 1st floor are beginning to take shape, including:

  • A welcoming new lobby and community living room offering comfortable seating, beautiful lighting, and a place to gather and visit.
  • A newly configured reception center and administrative suite to accommodate Touro’s staff as it expands to meet the needs of our growing congregation.
  • Renovated offices for clergy and staff that allow in natural light and connect to a contiguous multi-level workspace.
  • A youth-focused learning lab for student activities adjacent to the Cantor’s office, Education Director’s office, and the Youth Director’s office.
  • An all-access bathroom conveniently located in the main corridor.
  • A new women’s restroom.
  • A new, large elevator enabling full access to upper floors.

Additional new spaces on the 2nd floor will be available soon, including:

  • A new technology-enabled library and meeting space featuring beautiful, re-claimed arched windows (that used to be covered over with sheetrock!)
  • A new sitting & reading room with comfortable seating
  • A new kid’s corner play area with kid-sized furnishings, storage and bookshelves
  • A renovated music & instruction space
  • Beautiful new classrooms

And the 3rd floor will feature new classrooms and restrooms!
