Uptown Hebrew
Wednesdays, 4:30-6:00 PM
Our mid-week Uptown Hebrew program serves as the formal language component of our Religious School. Designed specifically for 3rd through 6th graders, it provides a weekly session dedicated to learning Hebrew phonics, decoding, reading fluency, trope/cantillation and vocabulary-building skills.
It was once famously written, “More than the Jewish people have kept Shabbat, Shabbat has kept the Jewish people.” We believe the same can be said about Hebrew: that the language of our people continues to connect us with our Judaism and Jewishness in three ways:
- by opening up the door for engagement with Torah, prayer, and Jewish literature — the foundations of our religious beliefs;
- by fostering a connection with K’lal Yisrael — the worldwide Jewish community united by the language of our inherited culture and traditions;
- by facilitating students’ preparation for becoming b‘nei mitzvah at age 13 or older — one of our most time-honored confluences of Jewish religious and culture;
Questions? We would be happy to discuss the Uptown Hebrew component of our Religious School program with any 3rd through 6th grade families!
