Funding Wells
We are excited to introduce a new donation structure to support the mission and priorities of our growing, vibrant synagogue. We are calling this structure the “Touro Synagogue Funding Wells”, inspired by the rich symbolism of wells in the Torah. In our history, wells are more than just sources of water; they represent sustenance, life, and spiritual nourishment. From Abraham’s well in Be’er Sheva, to the well where Rebekah’s compassion shone through, and even Jacob’s encounter with Rachel at the well, these places in our tradition are where life-sustaining waters are drawn, and communities are formed.
In the same spirit, our Funding Wells are dedicated areas of giving that will sustain the life and growth of Touro Synagogue, focused on our congregational priorities. The Wells we have created include:
- Clergy Discretionary Well
Supports tzedakah opportunities and acute needs of congregants. Includes Caring & Mitzvah, community engagement, Tikkun Olam, professional development for our clergy, staff, and madrichim, and related expenses. Donors to a specific clergy Discretionary Fund may also contribute to this well, and may specify the intended clergy fund in the “Memo” field. - Teens and Youth Well
Supports funding for the Belle Adelman-Cannon Center for Teen Leadership, Henry S. Jacobs Camp scholarships, and the Woody Widofsky Youth Education Fund. Also used for furnishings, supplies, and materials for Kids’ Corner, Teen Lounge, and Learning Lab, and for related expenses. - Jewish Engagement Well
Supports Jazz Fest Shabbat and other musical programming, the Donald Mintz Lecture Fund and other invited speakers, films, exhibitions, Library materials, Torah Study, subsidies for congregational travel, ad hoc events, and related expenses. - Shabbat and Worship Well
Supports Shabbat dinner, live streaming, flowers, and other worship-related expenses.
This new structure will be reflected in Touro Synagogue’s donation webpage. Should you wish to contribute, you can designate which Funding Well you’d like your donation to support, either online, over the phone, or via mail.
