  • SOUTHERN JEWISH HISTORY, HERE AND NOW WITH DR. MICHAEL COHEN
    12:30PM

With the recent opening of New Orleans’ brand new Museum of the Southern Jewish Experience, there is no better time to discover some of the deep, long-lasting roots of Southern Jewish life, and to view them within the wider context of the American and global Jewish experience. Please join Dr. Michael Cohen — chair of the Department of Jewish Studies at Tulane University, Senior Historical Advisor for the Museum of the Southern Jewish Experience, and a Touro Synagogue board member — for an eye-opening learning session about Southern Jewry’s shared, yet often divergent, history.
  • TOURO’S COMMUNITY IMPACT & ACTION INITIATIVES
    2:00PM
Come hear about some of our powerful community-based programs in which our congregation and members are engaging, and to hear about future opportunities to impact the community and city positively which you may wish to join! We will hear from representatives and participants of Together New Orleans, a coalition of religious and secular organizations dedicated to crossing racial, religious, neighborhood, and political lines to address community problems that affect everyone; and from Project Reyacha, our congregational partnership with Home Is Here NOLA, which works to support and assist asylum-seekers during their resettlement journeys.   We will also learn from Touro member Ben Zucker, co-founding Director of Step Up Louisiana about ways Touro congregants can engage in that organization’s work for racial and economic justice.
