Dear Touro Synagogue Family,
On Rosh Hashanah morning, I made a promise to us all (and pledged myself) to figure out a way that we could make a meaningful impact on the refugee resettlement program in New Orleans.
After a powerfully productive and informative meeting with Julie Ward, Director of Immigration and Refugee Services at Archdiocese of New Orleans Catholic Charities, we learned about the immediate and ongoing needs of refugee families being welcomed to New Orleans.
In addition to material donations, there are many opportunities for engagement such as welcoming families at the airport, transportation, ESL tutoring, mentoring, and resettlement support.
Please see the attached comprehensive documents about ongoing, pressing needs in the refugee resettlement work here. There are opportunities to deliver food, furnish homes, help with English language tutoring, cultural orientation, health care, and more. There are chances to help once, or ongoing.
Please note the delivery requirements for each donation. Also, make sure you take a look at the attached sheets for further information about volunteer opportunities. If you have any questions, contact Lilian Alvarez (Program Manager – Refugee Services, Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans) – firstname.lastname@example.org Rabbi Berk – email@example.com.
